How Do I Read the Bible

How Do I Read the Bible

There are two basic ways to read the Bible.

One is to study the Bible by focusing on a particular book, chapter or passage of scripture. This requires more time, more research, more meditation. This can give you better insight into the meaning and application of the scripture you studied.

The other method is to simply read the Bible each day in a systematic way, feeding on the Bread of Life. Before you start pray and ask God to reveal His Word to you as you read. Open your heart to listen to the teaching of the Holy Spirit and let it settle on your spirit. Over time this will give you a bigger picture of who God is and how He relates to mankind. You will begin to discover the nature and character of your heavenly Father. It is not reading to prove your theological position but reading to understand better how to live as a child of the King.

We are promoting the daily reading of the Bible. That is not to say we do not believe studying the Bible is not important. Both are vital to a Christian. This ministry does not have the background, training or resources to provide Bible study. There are many good sources for that. Partaking of spiritual bread daily feeds your soul and will strengthen your against the struggles of life.

Think of the Bible as the Lord’s love letter to you, you are His dear child. As the best Father , He wants only the best for you. Your reading will become a journey of revelation. The Holy Spirit will become your teacher revealing the hidden mysteries of God.

Remember this is not studying or memorization. Realize that the Bible was not arranged in chronological order. Even chapters of some books are not chronological. Also most of the books were written over a long period of time. Read at your normal pace. God will honor your effort and the Holy Spirit will do the work in your heart. Do not worry if you do not fully understand what you read. The Holy Spirit will guide you and bring to you memory His Word when you need it.

Set aside a time frame of about 15 minutes each day. Try to make it the same time each day. In the mornings, at lunch or before bed what ever works best for you to have some alone time in the Word. Remember most importantly you are trying to form a habit of daily Bible reading. If you miss a day of reading just pick up where you left off. God is not going to punish you if you take longer than one year to read the Bible. He is thrilled that you are making the attempt.

This is just one tool to help you draw closer to God. God promises to draw close to us when we make the effort to draw close to Him. We are also told in Hebrews 11:6 that He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Begin reading His Word and He will reward you beyond your imagination.

When you finish reading the Bible through start over again, make it a part of your daily life. The grace and mercy of Almighty God will flow in and through you. It will unlock all the promises of God in your life.
